Why do a Whole30®

Many of us have grown up on processed foods. For some of us, it has made us very sick. For many, it seems as if it isn’t a problem at all. It is very common that food sensitivities can stay hidden, and that inflammatory culprits go unnoticed. Certain foods that are a part of your diet might be causing silent inflammation and you might not even know it! I have worked with clients that say they feel fine. They are amazed once they are a few weeks in to their Whole30® that instead of “fine” they feel AMAZING.

Our bodies don’t recognize much of the processed foods that are now popular, and that causes inflammation even without a food sensitivity. This is why Whole30® can be helpful, even for the healthy. Whole30® is a whole foods experiment that eliminates the most common inflammation-causing foods for 30 days, and reintroduces them one at a time, methodically, to gather the data on your body’s response. By eliminating alcohol, grains, dairy, legumes and sugar/sugar substitutes, as well as some inflammatory additives such as msg and carrageenan, the body gets a chance to rest and reset. By re-introducing the foods one by one, we get a clear indication if there is a problem. Our bodies have a chance to send a clear signal (ie: GI upset, rash, sleepiness) in response to that food. The most common effects from doing a Whole30® that I have witnessed include better sleep, improved energy, clear skin (acne and eczema), better mood, less aches and pains, enhanced mental clarity, and better digestion.
