I remember how easy it was to get overheated in the summer when I had autoimmune symptoms!
But that is not an excuse to let your movement levels slip, or your exercise routine fall off.

So, you might want to consider getting into the water as the temperatures heat up!  🏊‍♀️

Even if you're not an avid swimmer, as long as you are safe in the water, there are plenty of ways to get moving while staying cool.

As with any exercise, it is important to start low and slow!
Work on consistency, and remember that it is important not to push so hard that you create a flare.
Gentle is key!
Then you can build from there.

Depending on your fitness level, and symptom expression, walking in the water might be a great place to start.
The water will keep you cool, and reduce any impact on your joints, while creating resistance to enhance your workout.

If you're a swimmer, I encourage you to swim!  Again, starting with fewer laps than you might think you should...just to build up wisely.

Water aerobics is another great option and can be adjusted to any fitness level.

Of course, other water sports are great too!
Paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, body surfing...are all lots of fun and great ways to exercise different muscle groups while staying cool.

Whether it is a pool, lake, or ocean calling to you...
get into the water to keep your cool this summer!

**Please remember that if you are enjoying a pool that is chlorinated, it is important to wash off as soon as possible as chlorine is a toxin and is easily absorbed through the skin.
Still better to swim and rinse!  Just make the effort to reduce your exposure.

Take Action
Consider whether staying cool in the water might help keep you moving during the hot season.
If so, make your plan.  Is there a pool you can access?  A buddy you can enlist?  A lake nearby?
Create your new routine and get into the water!
