Welcome to Take Your Power Back Thursday!
Last week we spoke about sleep quality. Did you make any changes to your bedroom? Did you notice a difference?
Either way, remember how I said that the little things add up, so don't be discouraged if your life has not completely transformed just yet.
These small habits rarely have a profound impact on their own. But when you are consistent with them, and you stack small tweaks, the benefits compound!
Today I want to talk to you about what you eat. And that's the one thing you do that is never neutral.
This means that whenever you put ANYTHING in your mouth, you're either moving closer to healing, or closer to your autoimmune symptoms.
I am guessing you have heard the expression "eat the rainbow."
Do you know why it is so important? It's not just to make a pretty plate!
It turns out that foods have different colors based on the nutrients in them!
So in order to ensure adequate nutrient intake, we need to eat some of every color!
Every day.
You see, often when I interview a new client, they'll say that they do eat "big salads". And that they love them.
Which is great.
But upon further questioning, it turns out that they do eat big salads WHEN they eat salads.
But they don't eat them regularly…
Which brings me to that other saying, "an apply a day, keeps the doctor away".
An apple a day. One apple, every day.
It doesn't say seven apples per week. Or 30 apples per month.
The key with healthy eating is consistency.
Take Action
Throughout the week, pay attention to everything you put on your plate. What colors are you getting?
Write it down on your phone's Notes App, on a journal, or a simple piece of paper. Simply write down which colors you are eating with each meal for a few days.
If you want, you can just take a picture of your breakfast, lunch and dinner and then review the pictures in a few days.
Do you see the different colors? Which one is missing? Which one are you repeating?
Look for: reds, orange and yellows, blue and purples, greens, white and browns (yes..they count too).
Oh, and remember, I am talking about colors from fruits and vegetables. Not processed foods!
Review at the end of the week. Are you getting a full variety?
This is your baseline. Now do it better next week.
