Do you have a vegetable garden?

With summer coming, it is time to get planting!

The benefits of growing your own vegetables are countless.  It is a great, inexpensive, way to have nutrient dense, organic vegetables all summer long.

If you have children, notice that they will tend to eat whatever they grow.  It is a great way to expand their veggie intake and cement good habits.

But it is not just about the good food!

Gardening can be a great stress reducer.  It is therapeutic!

It gets you outside in the fresh air and sunshine and can boost your vitamin D levels.

It is good for your heart ❤️

Digging in the dirt can improve mood and reduce anxiety...not just because it is fun.

There are microbes in the soil that can boost serotonin.

Gardening can improve hand strength.

Growing your own veggies can increase a sense of accomplishment.

Gardening is a form of exercise.

It's FUN!

You don't need a big yard to grow your own food.  Even if you live in an apartment, you can plant a container garden.

Even something as simple as sprouts or herbs in the kitchen can be fun, delicious, and rewarding!

It is absolutely not necessary to be a master gardener to get started.  I always joke that my garden is generous in spite of my lack of gardening skill.

Take Action

Get your hands dirty!  If you already. have a garden, get in there!  If you don't currently have a garden, I encourage you to SERIOUSLY consider what you can grow.

Perhaps get a sprouting kit and grow your own sprouts, or maybe you want to jump right in (like I did years ago).

Chances are, once you start growing your own food, you won't want to stop!
