Stop normalizing your symptoms!

I wrote a magazine article today about the role that chronic inflammation plays in illness and aging.

You have likely heard me talk about this before.

I get really frustrated that we are so trained to chalk decline up to "just getting older."

When the article launches in June, I will share it.  It got me thinking about you, and about how I can best serve you this week.

Spring is in the air here in Colorado.

It seems like the perfect time to take stock of your symptoms and REALLY listen to your body.

Whether you have full blown autoimmunity, or simply have the goal of up leveling your health this year, the first step is the same.

Assess where you are right now.  On a scale of 1-10, rate the following (preferably without judgement):
  • How is your energy?
  • Is your body free from aches and pains?
  • Is your digestion unnoticeable?
  • Does your sleep leave you feeling rested?
  • Is your weight where you would like it?
  • How is your focus and productivity?
I promise I am not trying to be negative!

The first step to creating change is assessing where we are right now.

JUST NOTICE...

It occurred to me as I was writing the article about normalizing symptoms that sometimes we need a reminder to check in with ourselves and truly listen to the information our bodies give us.  Whether you are new to lifestyle medicine or you have been at it a long time, it can be good to pause and check in.

Perhaps you will notice that while you weren't paying attention, some of your symptoms have improved.  And it is possible you have been ignoring some nagging signs that your body isn't happy.

Either way...celebrate the knowledge you gain.

With the knowledge comes the power.

The power to change!

Now that you know your starting point, you can make a plan.

Or tweak your plan.

Take Action

The action step this week is to pause, turn inward, and assess where you are and what your body is telling you.

As you move throughout your day, pay attention to how you feel and what you experience.

That's it!  It is so simple that we often forget to do it!
