Spotlight on red foods!

You have likely heard me say that it is important to eat the rainbow.

That is because the different colors have different phytonutrient profiles and support the body in different ways.

This week's focus is red foods.

Red foods contain phytonutrients that may help reduce the risk for certain cancers, along with helping to protect the brain, heart, liver, and immune system.

Sounds good, doesn't it? It is worth the effort to make sure you are including red foods in your diet.

The list of nutrient packed red foods is long...but here are some of my favorites:

Pomegranate is not only delicious, but it is special because it contains ellagic acid, which helps support your liver with detoxification.

Lycopene, which is found in significant concentrations in tomatoes, watermelon, and pink grapefruit, can protect against many types of cancer, as well reducing the risk of heart attack.

You may have seen my post on watermelon, which is loaded with lycopene.

I am sensitive to tomatoes, so I am glad the summertime treat has the benefits as well!

There are at least a dozen other health supporting compounds that are prevalent in red foods.

Take Action

Look at your plates today. Are you including red foods in your daily diet?

If not, add some red foods to your meals!

It is simple, it just takes some intention.

That's it! I'll see you here next week!
