Welcome to Take Your Power Back Thursday!

What are you putting in your mouth?

Every day you load up your toothbrush with some sort of toothpaste, and put it in your mouth.

The goal for brushing your teeth is to support oral health, and your health in general. BUT… Did you know that most commercial toothpaste contains toxins and chemicals that can negatively impact your health?

SERIOUSLY!

Most of us have been told that fluoride is essential for dental health. It is added to tap water, and dentists offer fluoride treatments. Most commercial toothpaste has fluoride in it.

Did you know that fluoride is a neurotoxin?

Children are especially sensitive to it.

Have you noticed the Warning on your toothpaste?

It reads as follows:

“If you accidentally swallow more than used for brushing, seek professional help or contact a poison control center immediately.”

And fluoride isn't the only offender in most brands of toothpaste!

Most also contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) which has many names. SLS is a foaming agent and can cause irritation and toxicity.

That makes sense, since it is a common ingredient in pesticides. Do you want that in your mouth?

I don't want to take up too much of your time today to make my point, so I will include one more frequent troublesome ingredient (although there are many more).

Parabens are used as preservatives, to extend shelf life.

While they are found in many cosmetics as well, they are KNOWN hormone disrupters.

The mouth absorbs easily, and is a direct route into the blood stream.

I know I promised only one more… but… artificial sweeteners (think aspartame or saccharin) are also almost always present in these toothpastes and should also be avoided for optimal health.

Fortunately, there are more and more companies making toothpaste without those toxic, inflammatory ingredients.

It is easier and easier to find clean options. You don't have to make your own toothpaste (although you can!).

Take Action

Read the label on your toothpaste. Does it have a poison warning?

If so, it is time to replace it with a fluoride free option!

Let's reduce that toxic load in one easy step!
