Is being an organized shopper keeping you from discovering new, on plan, food options?

That's what happened to me!

I am very organized about my grocery shopping.  I love spending time in my garden, and cooking according to what is ready to eat.
But...I don't love grocery shopping.
Never have!

I tend to go beyond practicing what I preach and sticking to the outside of the store.

I make my list (organized by how the store is organized) and then I spend as little time as possible, gathering the items on my list so that I can be on my way.

Granted, when you are mainly buying produce and meat, there isn't a lot of wasted time anyway.

BUT...it keeps me from finding new things to try and noticing what else is available, even if it is for next time.

Sometimes I learn of products from my clients.
Like Pumfu...
That's right...its like tofu (which is made from soy, and I avoid soy) but it is made with pumpkin seeds.
And...it is delicious!
As I was never really a tofu eater, I haven't been in search of a substitute.

Last time I went to the store, my boyfriend showed me a package of "lasagne noodles" that were made from hearts of palm.
Just hearts of palm!
And although I don't eat tomatoes or dairy, we had a delicious lasagne that night, and it is now something that I will plan to cook again.

I realized that my organized, efficient shopping style was keeping our menus stuck on repeat.

So...
I am changing it up!
I am still too busy to spend hours at the grocery store, but once a month I will take a meander and look for new items for my clients, and perhaps myself, to enjoy.

You see, I am happy eating simply prepared meals and don't miss what has been gone from my plate for years...but, it is fun to try new things and continue to expand recipes.

Take Action

You guessed it!  Next time you go to the grocery store, take some time to check out what else they have.
Maybe it is a vegetable you have never tried, or a pasta noodle made from hearts of palm...you get the idea.
Explore and expand.  Have fun!
